My recent correspondence regarding purchase of Fradi-MTK tickets with the MLSZ (Hungarian FA) can be read below – start at the bottom. This also included a couple of phone calls from Gyongyi to MLSZ and MTK and a call by myself to Fradi. We were told that:
- the ticket office would be closed on match day;
- the ticket office would be open on match day;
- who knows if the ticket office will be open;
- it has never been possible to purchase tickets without a fan card (but with foreign passport);
- it will be possible to purchase tickets with a foreign passport online and a ticket office;
- it is only possible to buy VIP tickets with a foreign passport;
- MTK is responsible for ticketing (said MLSZ);
- Fradi is responsible for ticketing (said MTK);
- MLSZ make the rules (Fradi);
- Silence (MLSZ).
It seems like no one knows the rules. The club card system has been in place for over six months now and however much I might disagree with the principle, it would be somewhat easier to stomach if a) there was consistent application and b) the people at MLSZ knew the rules. Being told by someone from MLSZ that it was not possible to enter as an away fan without a fan card when I have done that exact thing at Gyor, Kecskement, Szombathely and Honved is absurd.
It seems like not only do I write the world’s most popular MTK English language blog, I am almost the foremost English language expert on the Hungarian club card system.
Given your lack of response and inability to confirm that my friend will be able to attend the Ferencvaros-MTK match, he has decided to cancel his trip to Budapest this weekend to my great disappointment. This is a shame as I was very excited about showing a game of excellent football by two of Hungary’s best football teams and demonstrating that Hungarian football is not as bad as all Hungarian people say it is.
All the best.

Apologies if you are very busy at the moment, but have you been able to find a solution to this problem?
If possible, can you call me on +36 [MY NUMBER] later today?

I hope that you had a pleasant weekend. Further to my email on Friday, has there been any progress on the matter?
I read in Nemzeti Sport that Sipos Jeno (the Head of Communications at MLSZ) said “Ott a helye a lelátókon mindenkinek, aki szereti a labdarúgást, a csapatát, és a felek sportszerű buzdításával törődik…” [There is a place for all who like football, their team and can behave in a sporting manner]. I hope that this is a sign that my friend will be able to watch Fradi-MTK from the Vendegszektor as he is very excited about the game. If he is not able to watch the game, then the statement made by Sipos Jeno is a lie and it will be very difficult to explain this to my friend.
Please give me an update as soon as possible as to how I can obtain my friend a ticket for the game.

I hope that you are well. Thank you for speaking with Gyongyi on this matter.
I have spoken to the ticket office at Ferencvaros and they have confirmed that it is only possible to enter the MTK section of the stadium for the Fradi-MTK game with a Szurkoloi Kartya. It is not possible to use a foreign passport to buy tickets on the day of the game.
This seems against MLSZ rules as I have been able to use a foreign passport at Kecskemet, Gyor, Honved and Szombathely this season to buy tickets for myself (before I obtained a Szurkoloi Kartya).
I still have a problem with how I can get my friend (who will be unable to get a fancard) to get into the MTK section for this match. Is there any way I can obtain a fan card for him before he comes to Budapest (with a copy of his passport etc.)? It is very important for me and I do not want my friend to have a bad impression of the game of football in Hungary.

Érdeklődni szeretnék, hogy a tegnapi telefonbeszélgetésünket követően sikerült-e a mai nap folyamán újabb információkat szerezni az MTK Klubtól az Örökrangadó jegyárusítása kapcsán?
[I would be interested to know if following our telephone call yesterday whether you were able to obtain further information from MTK about the sale of tickets for the derby game.]
Előre is köszönöm a válaszát!
[Thanks in advance]

[Anonyomous] Jenővel történt iménti telefonbeszélgetésre hivatkozva ezúton érdeklődnék az alábbi levélváltás alapján a klubkártya kiváltás megváltozott(?) szabályairól.
[Please see my email below, further to my recent discussion with [Anonymous] Jeno, regarding the change (?) in club card rules.]
Legutóbbi ismereteim szerint külföldi állampolgároknak nem szükséges a klubkártya kiváltása, kizárólag az útlevél elegendő a jegyvásárláshoz (a vasárnapi Honvéd-MTK meccsen nem jelentett problémát a venezuelai barátunknak a jegyvásárlás MTK klubkártya nélkül).
[Based on my recent knowledge and experience, foreign nationals do not require a separate club card to purchase tickets. Indeed we attended the recent Honved-MTK match without any problems with our friend with a Venezuelan passport without an MTK club card.]
[I understand that the purchase of tickets for the derby between MTK and Ferencvaros is slightly more complicated. One of our Scottish friends is arriving to Budapest on Saturday evening to watch the MTK-Fradi match on Sunday. He does not have an MTK club card and will be unable to obtain one on Sunday (match day) because the venue that issues the club cards will be shut.]
[My question is whether on the day of the match (Sunday), a foreign person will be able to acquire a ticket using his foreign passport or he should not come to Budapest because he will be unable to watch the game in the Away section.]
Előre is köszönöm a szíves tájékoztatását.
[Thanks in advance for your answer]

I understand. So how can he get into the stadium? Can he buy a ticket at the Vendegpenztar with his foreign passport? He is flying to Budapest to watch this game only.

Thank you. I know this. My friend will not be in Hungary until the day of the game. Can I get a Club Card for him?
Will tickets for this game (Fradi – MTK) be available on the day of the game? Can he use his UK passport to buy tickets to this game at the Vendeg penztar of the Groupama Arena?

You friend couldn’t buy ticket to the club match if he/she hasn’t got club card,has to make one to buy ticket.
From: Tim Sent: Tuesday, March 10, 2015 9:38 AM To: futballkartya Subject: Fradi – MTK tickets
I am an MTK fan (with club card) and shall be attending the Fradi – MTK game in the Vendegszektor. I have a friend flying from London specifically to watch this game. Unfortunately, he will arrive very late on Saturday 21 March; therefore he will not be able to collect a Fan Card from Balna before it closes.
I am scared that it will not be possible to buy him a ticket. For the MTK – Fradi game last year, it was not possible to buy a ticket on the day of the game. Will the same thing happen this time? Will the away ticket office be open on Sunday 22 March at Groupama Arena so that my friend can use his foreign passport? If not, is it possible to get him a ticket in advance?
Please advise: it would be very disappointing for my friend to fly here and not watch the game with other MTK fans.
